The ding dong check is an advanced move that can be used to great effect by lacrosse defenders. The key to the move is to make contact with the ball, not the player, and to dislodge it from their grip. This can be done by sweeping the stick across the body of the attacker, making contact with the ball and knocking it away. The move can be used anywhere on the field, but is most effective when used against an attacker who is in possession of the ball. By dislodging the ball from their grip, you can cause them to lose control and give your team a chance to gain possession.
To execute this advanced move, you must first get into a strong defensive stance with your hands out in front of your body and your feet should be moving. Then, you simply need to explode forward, making contact with the opposing player as you extend your arms outwards.
The first step involves faking an over-the-head check. You just need to lift the stick up and then rather than moving the stick over the head, you then just bring it back fast while targetting the gloves of the opponent. This is a great technique as the opponent will think that you are planning to make an head check but you end up making a Ding Dong Check. The attacker will be so busy worrying about getting his gloves smacked that he won’t even know what hit him. This will not only surprise your opponent, but it will also disrupt his rhythm and timing. With a little practice, the ‘ding dong check’ can be a powerful weapon in your defensive arsenal.
