A lacrosse wall ball is a training exercise that is used to improve a player’s stick skills. The exercise is performed by bouncing the ball off of a wall and catching it in the air. The player will then throw the ball back against the wall and catch it again.
The player will continue this process for a set amount of time or until a certain number of catches is reached. The player may also vary the height of the throws, the speed of the throws, and the distance from the wall.
Wall Ball Variations
There are many different variations of the lacrosse wall ball exercise. The player may vary the height of the throws, the speed of the throws, and the distance from the wall.
Normal
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall at a normal height and speed. Ideally, the player should be standing 5 feet from the wall and the ball should be thrown at normal speed. The player will then catch the ball and throw it back against the wall.
Far Back
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall at a higher height and speed. Here, the player should maintain a distance of at least 8 to 10 feet from the wall. The player will then catch the ball and throw it back against the wall. You will need to put in a little more effort to reach the ball.
In Close
Here you will need to maintain a very short distance from the wall, ideally 2 to 3 yards. Since the distance is very short, you will need to make softer throws.
Throw right, catch left
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall with their right hand and catch it with their left hand (you will need to switch the stick from right hand to left hand during this drill). The player will then throw the ball back against the wall and catch it with their right hand.
Throw left, catch right
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall with their left hand and then switch the stick from left hand to right to catch the ball with their right hand. The player will then throw the ball back against the wall and catch it with their left hand.
One handed
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall with one hand and catch it with the same hand. The player will then throw the ball back against the wall and catch it with the same hand. It will feel a bit weird at first, but you will eventually get used to it.
Quick Stick
The player will bounce the ball off of the wall at a higher height and speed. The player will then catch the ball and quickly throw it back against the wall. The idea behind this drill is to throw the ball as quickly and as fast as possible.
Bounce Pass
You need to stand 12 feet or so away from the wall for this lacrosse drill. Now, throw the ball at the wall and catch it after it gets bounced off the ground. So that means, don’t catch the ball mid-air rather allow the ball to hit the ground first and then try to catch it.
Behind the Back
In this drill, you will have to master the art of throwing the ball accurately behind your back. For this lacrosse drill, you need to stand at least 10 feet away from the wall. The further you are from the wall, the more challenging the drill will be.
Shuffle
If your wall is wide enough, perform wall ball while shuffling in one direction. This lacrosse drill will help you improve your footwork and can make you game ready.
