Carbon vs. Metal Lacrosse Shafts
A debate has been raging for ages about the supremacy of carbon fiber lacrosse shaft over traditional metal lacrosse shafts. Now, both these types of lacrosse shafts have their share of advantages and disadvantages and here we are going to explain them in detail –
Carbon Fiber Lacrosse Shafts
Unlike traditional metal lacrosse shafts, composite lacrosse shafts (aka carbon fiber lacrosse shafts) are far more resilient and can withstand impacts with far more grace and eloquence. Carbon fiber shafts don’t get impacted by the changes in the weather. They don’t get prone to breaks or dents just because the temperature outside suddenly plummet to subzero and that means, they will last longer than their metal counterparts.
Carbon fiber shafts draw their strength from the layers. More often than not, carbon fiber shafts are constructed from layers and this endows them with incredible strength and immense flexibility. The most amazing feature of this Carbon fiber shaft is that it makes passing easier. The shaft will bend itself to grab the ball and once the ball gets into the pocket, the Carbon fiber shaft then snaps back into its original shape. Another cool thing about Carbon fiber shaft is that it is tapered. What it means is that some parts of this shaft are thick and some areas are thin and this is done intentionally just to improve the accuracy of ball passing and shooting.
Metal Lacrosse Shafts
Metal Lacrosse Shafts on the other hand are super strong and they have managed to win the trust of the players. They are super strong but metal lacrosse shafts have their share of disadvantages as well. For example, they don’t have layer constructions that this is what makes them more prone to dents and damages. But Metal Lacrosse Shafts are available for cheap.

This article seems biased as there are plenty of “metal” Alloy and Titanium blend shafts that will last a long time. My son had a carbon fiber stick I purchased in January of this year (2021) and it snapped in the first scrimmage of the season….
We’ll see if the replacement is any better, but so far not impressed. I’ve seen plenty of carbon fiber shafts break in half at games, so not sure on the longevity just yet.
Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective on the durability of different lacrosse shaft materials. It’s important to consider various viewpoints when discussing the pros and cons of different equipment options, and I appreciate your input.
It’s true that some metal alloy and titanium blend shafts can be very durable and reliable, and I apologize if the article seemed to favor carbon fiber shafts disproportionately. The longevity and performance of a lacrosse shaft can indeed vary greatly based on factors such as the quality of the material, manufacturing process, and the intensity of gameplay.
I’m sorry to hear about your son’s carbon fiber stick breaking so soon after purchasing it. It’s always disappointing when a piece of equipment doesn’t live up to our expectations. I hope the replacement performs better and lasts longer.
It’s essential to remember that each player’s experience with different materials may vary, and what works for one player might not be suitable for another. As a result, it’s crucial to consider personal preferences and experiences when making equipment choices.
Again, thank you for your valuable input, and I hope that future discussions on lacrosse equipment will take a more balanced approach, considering the merits and drawbacks of various materials.
